Valid 365 days per W.S. 31-7-102(a)(xlviii); applicant must hold a valid Wyoming classified driver's license and be at least 18. Only Passenger (P), School Bus (S), and Tank Vehicle (N) endorsements may be added to a CLP (a CLP with N is also restricted to empty, unpurged-of-hazmat-residue tanks only). The $40 base fee carries WYDOT's standard $5 technology fee on top, for $45 total.
Wyoming's CDL manual lists 'persons under 18 years of age' among those who cannot get a Wyoming CDL at all — no lower age exception for intrastate-only operation was found beyond that 18-year floor.
Written knowledge tests are free, and an applicant who fails one version may retake a different version of the same test the same day (but not the same version twice in one day) — no day-based waiting period is published for knowledge retests. Skills tests are by appointment only; WYDOT's own examiners administer most public testing, since Wyoming's certified third-party examiners are authorized to test only their own employer's employees, not the general public. A missed or failed skills-test appointment forfeits the $80 fee (plus $5 technology fee) and requires paying again to reschedule.

Federal requirements that apply in Wyoming

- Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT). Since February 2022, first-time CDL applicants — and drivers upgrading to Class A or seeking a first-time school bus, passenger, or hazmat endorsement — must complete Entry-Level Driver Training with a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry before testing.
- DOT medical certificate. Most CDL holders who operate in interstate commerce must hold a valid DOT medical examiner's certificate, issued by an examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
- Interstate minimum age. Federal rules set 21 as the minimum age to drive commercially across state lines; states set their own intrastate minimum, commonly 18.
- Hazmat security threat assessment. A hazardous materials endorsement additionally requires a TSA security threat assessment, which is a federal process separate from the state endorsement.
